The Deathbringer Pickaxe is the fifth tier of Pickaxe. Like all pickaxes, it is used to mine a majority of blocks and ores. This, the Nightmare Pickaxe, the Molten Pickaxe, and the Reaver Shark are the only Pre-Hardmode pickaxes able to mine Ebonstone Blocks/Crimstone, Obsidian, Hellstone, and Dungeon Bricks.

It is the Crimson variant of the Nightmare Pickaxe, but its mining speed is one less and it needs one less hit to mine ebonstone/crimstone/hellstone or dungeon blocks.

Compared to the Nightmare Pickaxe, the Deathbringer Pickaxe has superior power, and has slightly better mining speed. It is actually much faster than the higher-tier Molten Pickaxe at mining weak block types: Ash, Clay, Dirt, Mud, Sand and Silt. It is still slower at mining stronger block types like Bricks, Gems, Stone, Meteorite, Obsidian, but faster at mining the strongest pre-Hardmode block type (i.e. Hellstone, Crimstone, Ebonstone, Pearlstone, Dungeon Bricks). Therefore, even when you can acquire the Molten Pickaxe, it is advisable to keep this one around so they can be swapped as needed. Rapid swapping is possible by selecting the pick which is later in your inventory and then holding shift to swap to the other pick as needed.

• After reaching hardmode and acquiring a Cobalt/Palladium Drill or Cobalt/Palladium Pickaxe, however, you can discard both of your pickaxes as drills are stronger and faster than both the Molten Pickaxe and Nightmare Pickaxe.
