Dark Casters are high level Mages found only in the Dungeon. They are essentially Skeletons, wearing blue Wizard robes. Although they appear with these robes, they are not dropped by the enemy. They have the ability to shoot magical Water Spheres at the player, and possess a teleporting ability. These Water Spheres can go through solid structures such as walls, and can be destroyed if at least 1 damage is applied against them.

They are similar in nature to Fire Imps and Goblin Sorcerer. They can be very annoying if you are attempting to loot items from chests. However, if you have enabled the Auto-pause feature (available in Update Category:1.0.4), you can take items from the chests without much of trouble. Having a Cobalt Shield will also make the process easier.The Vilethorn is useful against him because the constant damage stuns him and he will be unable to teleport or cast the spheres.
The Dark Caster also occasionally drops Golden Keys, which are able to open Locked Gold Chests, in the dungeon or at a floating island.
