The Axe is a Hamaxe, working as both a Hammer and an Axe. It produces an electric guitar sound when swung. The Axe has a 0.5% (1 in 200) chance of being dropped by Plantera.

Its best Modifier is Legendary.

Notes

• The Axe is capable of breaking Demon and Crimson Altars.
• The Axe can be auto-swung by holding the attack button, like any tool.
• In PvP, it seems to be able to hit a player twice in one swing.
• While auto-swinging, the player will be unable to change direction.

Trivia

• Its appearance closely resembles that of a Gibson "Flying V" guitar.
• The Axe was added as a tribute to Dimebag Darrell, founding member of Pantera.
• Its name and sprite refer to electric guitars being nicknamed "axes" in rock music culture. The Axe being dropped by Plantera is part of the reference to American Metal band Pantera, which Redigit's girlfriend has stated is her favorite band.
• With 175% Axe power and 100% hammer power, it is both the most powerful axe as well as the most powerful hammer in the game. However, Shroomite Digging Claw will cut down trees faster due to its extremely high mining speed, and Spectre Hamaxe will have longer range, but they both lack offense power. It is one of the strongest melee weapons in the game, only losing by 3 base damage to The Horseman's Blade and 16 base damage to the Terra Blade. Because of its high base damage, formidable knockback, and autoswing ability, it is often regarded as a weapon rather than a tool, despite being the strongest Axe and Hammer in the game.
• The Axe is in the Mobile 1.2 App Icon.
• The Axe may also be a nod to Fooley Cooley, an anime in which few of the characters use weaponized electric guitars to fight.
