There are a variety of guns available in Terraria with increasing levels of potency as more rare guns are acquired. The guns range from early to modern styles and designs, starting with the Flintlock Pistol that can be acquired early on in the game (if you are an avid cave explorer), and later weapons

such as the Phoenix Blaster that has significantly more damage, range and accuracy. Some of the guns require ammunition such as Musket Balls for the Flintlock Pistol, where as others use up the player's mana under sustained fire. An example of a weapon that uses mana as a resource is the Space Gun that consumes 8 mana per shot. However, wearing a set of Meteor Armor will allow the Space Gun to fire infinitely without cost. Note that the Meteor Armor must be worn in the Equip slots. You will not gain this ability while wearing it in the Social Slots.

The Clockwork Assault Rifle is also available as a gun, but to obtain it players must kill the Wall of Flesh .

A weapon that must not be forgotten is the Musket. It uses a minimal amount of bullets and offers a good knockback and fair damage. This is probably the most accessible gun because it is found when smashing Shadow Orbs, and it's a must-have because without it the Arms Dealer will not (should not) spawn. It uses Musket Balls, Silver Bullets, (sold by the Arms Dealer after the Wall of Flesh has been defeated or during Blood Moon), Meteor Shot, Crystal Bullets, and Cursed Bullets as Ammunition .

Unique firearms such as the Star Cannon use Fallen Stars as Ammunition, although this may not be the most efficient weapon in Terraria's arsenal, as it can keep the player striving for more outlandish gear and equipment after getting far into the game. The Star Cannon was nerfed to dealing only 60 damage, compared to 75 prior to version 1.0.5. However, as of 1.1, the Star Cannon's rate of fire was greatly increased, making it almost as fast as the Minishark.

Some weapons are more fanciable than others, despite being potentially heavy on your wallet. Some weapons, such as the Minishark with its devastating rate of fire of 7 rounds per second, can really pay off with their damage output and efficiency.

As of the 1.0.6 update, the amount of ammunition shows up underneath the gun, whether they be Musket Balls, Silver Bullets, Meteor Shot or even Sand and Fallen Stars for the Sandgun and Star Cannon respectively.
