"Celestial creatures are invading!"

The Lunar Events are a series of four Hardmode, post-Golem events initiated by defeating the Lunatic Cultist boss. Once the boss is defeated, four sections of the world show a large moon in their backgrounds, spawn several unique enemies at high spawn rates, and one corresponding Celestial Tower appears in each. These areas can be found on the minimap via icons that represent each of their Celestial Towers.

Defeating a pillar (aka Celestial Tower) reverts an area back to normal. In order to damage a pillar, one must first kill 100 enemies (150 in Expert Mode) from within its section, which removes the shield that protects the pillar and makes it vulnerable to attacks.

Defeating all four pillars will cause the status message "Impending doom approaches..." to appear, and after a one-minute delay the Moon Lord, considered to be Terraria's final boss, will spawn.

Tips

For more elaborate strategies on defeating Lunar Events, including weapon and arena recommendations, see Guide:Lunar Events strategies.
  • When fighting the Solar Pillar, take into account that the Crawltipede does not target players on blocks and platforms. It may be easier to stay grounded while fighting it, although this may make it somewhat more difficult to deal with Corites depending on weapon selection.
  • The pillars retain their damage, regardless of player deaths.
  • An effective setup for melee players is The Horseman's Blade and Turtle Armor. Then build a small area where you can have lots of statues that spawn enemies so when your sword kills them, it spawns homing pumpkin heads. Have up to three statues of the same types.
  • An effective setup for a melee player could be the Cosmic Car Key and Vampire Knives as it allows the player to dodge all monsters and also heal the player at a good rate.
  • An effective setup for a ranged player is the same mount listed above, alongside a gun with high firing rate and Meteor Shot or Chlorophyte Bullet. Examples of such guns are the Chain Gun, the Megashark, or if you happened to had fought the Moon Lord previously, the SDMG. For even more of an advantage, players may wish to bring an Ammo Box or Ammo Reservation Potion.
  • Players may wish to use the Stardust Dragon Staff or another powerful minion to provide aid throughout the lunar event if they don't mind the inventory space used up, even if your gear does not authorize more than one. This provides aid in maintaining crowd control, especially with the Crawltipede in the Solar Pillar areas.
  • It can be helpful to launch the lunar event even you haven't the level to do that. Step by step, you will defeat one pillar, then you can use the drops from that pillar to move on to the next one, so on and so forth. Even if you lose to the Moon Lord, you will be much more prepared than you were before.
  • Once the final pillar has been destroyed and "Impending doom approaches", do not save and exit the game, as doing so will abort the event and stop the Moon Lord from spawning.

Trivia

  • The music played during the Lunar Events was made available as part of the second Terraria Soundtrack volume under the title "Lunar Boss" despite not being implemented in the game.
  • All the Lunar Pillars have a Humanoid like creature:

Notes

  • No celestial creatures drop presents during christmas. They don't drop Goodie Bags during Halloween either.
