Muskets are commonly found by smashing Shadow Orbs, which will also yield between 25 and 50 Musket Balls. The first smashed Shadow Orb in a world will always produce a Musket. Finding the Musket is usually the easiest way to spawn the Arms Dealer.
After smashing two shadow orbs, it is possible for both only to give one musket, so don't be disappointed if this happens. If this happens, it is recommended to sell one (Prefferably one that doesn't have a reforge on it, after all, one with no reforgement on it can still yield two gold coins)
In spite of its very slow speed, the Musket is a fairly powerful weapon. The high damage means that it can kill many weaker enemies in 2-3 shots, making it more ammo-efficient than most other early and mid-game guns. The Musket isn't useful in crowded settings, however, as the weapon won't fire quickly enough to keep multiple enemies at bay. It also emits light while shooting. Also it seems if you shoot an enemy in the head then it will critical a lot.
