Although the Obsidian Horseshoe is made by combining the Obsidian Skull and the Lucky Horseshoe, it does not provide the extra one point of defense given by the Obsidian Skull.

Obsidian Horseshoe vs. Obsidian ShieldEdit

The Obsidian Shield offers two additional defense and prevents knockback. Since many players will likely choose to wear Wings, which (like the Obsidian Horseshoe) also negate fall damage, the Obsidian Shield is likely the better choice after the Wall of Flesh has been defeated.
