most players would use lightning boots for mobility, why should players use this? its a nice convenience factor for starbriges yes, but unsure what else... 67.233.98.29 00:17, 9 October 2013 (UTC)

Asphalt blocks give a greater speed boost than boots do, regardless of whether you're wearing boots or not. --186.136.108.121 17:07, 2 November 2013 (UTC)

Does this only affect players or mobs too? If anyone knows they should add it to the article. --80.213.18.77 17:03, 19 October 2013 (UTC)

Good catch. Just tested, it doesn't affect mobs, will add to the article. --186.136.108.121 17:07, 2 November 2013 (UTC)

Confirmed that when alternating blocks with air, stuff like glowing mushrooms do not negate the effect.--71.123.218.120 06:19, 24 November 2013 (UTC)

Speed nerfed?[]

As of 1.4.0.4, my base speed while running along an asphalt skybridge (elevation 510' in a Small world) is only 53mph, and Frostspark Boots increase that to only 57mph. Furthermore, the other lower-tier speed boots (e.g. Hermes Boots) appear to have no effect at all. --Quietust (talk) 02:39, 4 June 2020 (UTC)

yup, seems so; in 1.4.2.3 here and I'm noticing the same issue and same numbers. Since I was converting my pre-hardmode sand skybridge to asphalt, I also got a comparison there; with no speed modifiers on accessories, Dunerider Boots above Terraspark Boots in accessory order to ensure the 15% boost still kicks in, I hit 60 mph on sand. Without Terraspark both hit 53, so I'd imagine this comes down to where the 15% speed boost is applied, as 15% of 53 does round down to 7, while the 4 mph increase suggests the 15% boost was calculated based on 30 mph base speed with just Terraspark Boots. That being said, even with movement increasing modifiers on my accessories I can't break past 60 mph on sand, only hit 60 mph on asphalt and then slam into the same wall, so it appears that there's a new universal 60 mph speed limit in the game as well, barring mounts as I hit 61 with Unicorn. Edit: I forgot about direct buffs; when using Exquisitely Stuffed, sand movement is still capped at 60 mph while Asphalt goes up to 82. Stacking on a Swiftness Potion allows for 95 mph. So it might be that everything except Asphalt experiences a speed limit like this, and Asphalt just conveniently hit 60 mph with my setup.--Amabo Kcorb (talk) 19:27, 23 May 2021 (UTC)

No longer possible to skip every other block?[]

After some tests in 1.4.0.5, I have not been able to achieve regular Asphalt speed without a continuous floor of Asphalt. Has it beenn tweaked? 47.61.204.242 19:08, 12 June 2020 (UTC)
