Misspelling[]

blue berry is mispelled, since the IGN is blue berries, in plural. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 217.216.36.182 at 08:20, 22 October 2013

Merging Dye Pages[]

I think the dye pages need to be merged with this page, since it's kind of messy to have a different page for each one. Gamablaze (talk) 03:58, 18 September 2014 (UTC)

I agree. I've been putting it off since it's a bigger job than some other merges -- there are a lot of dyes, and there may be some actual info on the individual dye pages that could warrant moving over. Feel free to start though and I'll help. Equazcion (talk) 04:46, 18 Sep 2014 (UTC)
Note that due to the complexity of the crafting options I'd merge the crafting lists on each page into a big one here, if we are going to be doing a merge. This is one of the reasons it could be a more tedious job than say paints or statues. Equazcion (talk) 04:48, 18 Sep 2014 (UTC)
As soon as I figure out how to do what needs to be done, I can start on it. Moving the recipes is the main thing I need to figure out. Gamablaze (talk) 04:55, 18 September 2014 (UTC)
Also might as well mark the dye page as Under Construction. Gamablaze (talk) 04:58, 18 September 2014 (UTC)
I can make each dye page into redirects using a bot when ready, so at least that part won't need to be done manually. If you get stuck with the crafting merges let me know, I know a bit about how that would be done -- it's just tedious. Equazcion (talk) 05:08, 18 Sep 2014 (UTC)
I feel silly for not waiting for a reply on this before adding redirects. Gamablaze (talk) 05:12, 18 September 2014 (UTC)
No problem :) Just leave a note when they're all ready to be mass-redirected. Equazcion (talk) 05:14, 18 Sep 2014 (UTC)
I think I've redirected them all manually. The recipes and update history seem to be the only thing left. Not sure how to do those. Gamablaze (talk) 05:26, 18 September 2014 (UTC)
I'm going to undo those redirects for now -- the information should be merged first so that it appears somewhere, before the pages are redirected. The major issue is how to merge all the information together and present it, while the redirecting itself can be done automatically via a bot afterward. I do appreciate the effort you put in though. Equazcion (talk) 05:39, 18 Sep 2014 (UTC)
Yeah, I didn't think it through very well. Gamablaze (talk) 05:41, 18 September 2014 (UTC)
No problem. On second thought I'm not sure about the merge. Right now if you acquire a dye you can go to its page and see all the other dyes that can be crafted with it. It seems like it might be simpler to keep it that way rather than having to search through the dye page for all the various recipes involving the dye you're looking for. I'm not sure though. I can't think of a way to merge it all on one page while still keeping things that easy. Equazcion (talk) 05:47, 18 Sep 2014 (UTC)
Yeah, I guess that makes sense. I acted faster than I thought. I thought the dye page already had all the recipes on it, so it seemed redundant at first. Gamablaze (talk) 05:50, 18 September 2014 (UTC)
I removed the under construction notice for now. We can always try this again at some point if someone comes up with a good idea for the layout. Equazcion (talk) 05:52, 18 Sep 2014 (UTC)
Yeah. I guess that's what I get for trying to edit the wiki at 1am. I better go to sleep. Gamablaze (talk) 05:58, 18 September 2014 (UTC)
I think this should be brought up again. While having the dye pages all merged on one page might be a pain, I think it would be better to have separate pages like "Primary Dyes", "Silver Compound Dyes", "Black Compound Dyes", "Bright Dyes", and "Gradient Dyes". I'd be able to start working on it now, but I'd like to hear others' opinions on this first. --KM100 (talk) 21:56, 22 May 2015 (UTC)
I know I'm responding late, but I do think this should be done still, but with proper planning this time. Is it possible to use tables to display the combination dyes? For instance, if you wanted to know what to mixed dyes make, you'd look in the top row for the first dye, and the left column for the second dye. I'm not to familiar with wiki code (or anything wiki related, really,) so I'm not sure of it's capabilities. Gamablaze (talk) 02:50, 7 July 2015 (UTC)
I too missed this comment at the time. I think a merge to a few separate list pages would be a good solution, if you still want to do that (@User:KM100). Equazcion (talk) 02:56, 7 Jul 2015 (UTC)
By merge, do you mean separating the page entirely, or simply creating new pages for each section and leaving this page as-is? Personally, I like the page as it is now. It may be long but it lists all the dyes and explains how to craft/obtain them in a concise and fairly well-organized manner. I think leaving this page alone but having separate pages for the current sections with tables, as mentioned above, would be a good idea. --Setheral (talk) 20:01, 8 July 2015 (UTC)
The intent of merging the pages would be to make it so each individual page wouldn't need to be managed despite conveying nearly identical information. This central Dye page would not be changed, but the individual pages (Red Dye, Blue and Black Dye, Yellow and Silver Dye, etc) would changed to redirects. I've already made a Bright Dye page to test the idea, so feel free to give your opinion.–KM100 (talk) 20:17, 8 July 2015 (UTC)
Ah, okay. The sample you linked is pretty much what I had in mind from my previous response, so I'm all for it. Let me know if I can help in any way if you decide to go through with it. --Setheral (talk) 17:53, 11 July 2015 (UTC)

Omissions[]

There are a few missing dyes such as Black and White Dye, Silver and Black Dye, and Bright White Dye. There may be more, but I know it is missing these.--24.23.226.117 12:36, 11 July 2015 (UTC)

Thanks for catching these. I've added them to the page. --Setheral (talk) 17:47, 11 July 2015 (UTC)

This really need a table[]

All the new dyes really fkd up the page, it's all clumsy and very hard to read, it would be lovely if someone makes a table with the GIFs effects of each dye, it would be a much cooler page. --Frenchiveruti (talk) 23:54, 15 July 2015 (UTC)

I agree. It is very hard to understand how to craft the super complex dyes, such as the Rainbow Dye. I will try and make it fing a table of each super complex dyes. I will get back soon with news! Dissumbull03 (talk) 03:06, 7 January 2019 (UTC)

Found a new dye[]

It's called Twiligh Hair Dye. You might want to add it. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 89.74.69.222 at 10:16, 20 Jul 2015 (UTC)

Crafting Every Dye[]

I reciently got done with trying to craft every dye following the numbers on the page i did not have enough items to craft 13 of every die (i got down to flame and black and flame and silver and ran out of dyes.) Also we might consider updating the math to include the 14th dye slot the desktop has available. (due to expert mode) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 192.180.181.83 at 14:07, 22 June 2017

Horrible jpeg images[]

Someone should get better player images so you can actually see what color it's supposed to be. 73.4.14.108 13:46, 16 September 2017 (UTC)

All the jpg images need to be remade into png files. I keep meaning to redo ALL these images. Maybe Monday. – Ferretwings (talk) 21:06, 16 September 2017 (UTC)

Lac Beetle Not On Mobile??[]

I’ve farmed countless times in the underground jungle, spent about 25 Battle Potions with a water candle, and even cleared out a giant platform with 60 Holy Hand Grenades. The Cyan and Cochineal Beetle exist, but I can’t seem to get this one. Can anyone confirm? If so, then this page needs to be updated. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 115.188.60.3 at 17:14, 19 December 2018‎

I just checked on my phone, and I do have a Violet Husk, so I did at one point kill a Lac Beetle. Although, I have 15 Red Husks and 9 Cyan Husks, so maybe they are rarer? – ReedemtheD3ad! (talk) 01:23, 20 December 2018 (UTC)
I also remember when playing (when I had no regard for “junk” looking items) getting an occasional husk but never a violet one. So it would be logical if the explanations was a number typo or a glitch Theextroardinary (talk) 16:32, 6 March 2019 (UTC) Theextroardinary (talk) 16:32, 6 March 2019 (UTC)

Fixing Icons[]

It’s already been done, but just in case I want to know how to fix the exclusivity icons (I’m very new to this), do you literally edit the image and add them on to the image of the item? Amikbixby (talk) 15:43, 11 January 2019 (UTC)

The icons are handled by the redirect page. For instance, look at https://terraria.gamepedia.com/index.php?title=Brown_Dye&redirect=no. When you edit the page, you'll see how it's handled. – Ferretwings (talk) 15:47, 11 January 2019 (UTC)
I meant the “this is exclusive to desktop/console/old-gen console/mobile/3DS” icons next to images/words. Thanks anyway. Amikbixby (talk) 17:33, 11 January 2019 (UTC)
Sorry, I just looked at it and figured out what you mean. Amikbixby (talk) 17:34, 11 January 2019 (UTC)
Is it if it’s not exclusive, but not specified non 3DS exclusive? Amikbixby (talk) 17:36, 11 January 2019 (UTC)
Ok still confused after looking at some more things. Amikbixby (talk) 17:40, 11 January 2019 (UTC)
Does this only apply to items without their own page (hooks, wings, torches, etc) Amikbixby (talk) 17:41, 11 January 2019 (UTC)
Im super confused now. Amikbixby (talk) 18:02, 11 January 2019 (UTC)
Ima google it in a sec. Amikbixby (talk) 18:02, 11 January 2019 (UTC)
Google was useless; please help meee! Amikbixby (talk) 19:07, 11 January 2019 (UTC)
Hi! Exclusivity icons are fairly tricky, since they're highly dynamic in order to always stay up to date everywhere. If you stumble across another issue like the one on this page, make sure to head to the respective page of the single entity whose icons are wrong (might be a redirect page, as Ferretwings stated above or might not be one). On that page, you will find an {{exclusive}} template at the very beginning of the code – it should always be the first line. The parameters of that template determine what platforms this entity is exclusive to (check {{exclusive}} for documentation on that). Note that changing these does not immediately change the icons of every instance of this entity on the wiki. {{Getev/db}} is the enormous database storing all exclusivity information. {{Getev/db/code}} is the template that constantly checks every change of {{exclusive}} changes on the wiki. After you've made your adjustments to the single pages, copy the generated code on {{Getev/db/code}} and paste it into {{Getev/db}}. The icons are then updated everywhere. If you have further questions, don't hesitate to ask! --Rye Greenwood (talk) 20:14, 11 January 2019 (UTC)
Thank you. I will probably temporarily change something to experiment, I will revert it. Amikbixby (talk) 20:20, 11 January 2019 (UTC)
What code? Amikbixby (talk) 20:33, 11 January 2019 (UTC)
Where is it? Amikbixby (talk) 20:35, 11 January 2019 (UTC)
If you know of one, is there anything like a “editing the Terraria wiki” manual? Amikbixby (talk) 20:47, 11 January 2019 (UTC)
That would be useful if there’s no one to ask. Amikbixby (talk) 20:48, 11 January 2019 (UTC)
The time stamps on the posts are about 6 hours fast. Amikbixby (talk) 20:49, 11 January 2019 (UTC)
If you know why that is I’m curious about that too. Amikbixby (talk) 20:50, 11 January 2019 (UTC)
I’m trying very hard not to be annoying right now FYI, I’m just super curious. I completely understand if you have more important things to do than explaining how to edit the Terraria wiki to a newbie. Amikbixby (talk) 20:53, 11 January 2019 (UTC)
As it is no longer relevant to the actual article this discussion page is associated with, I continued my answer on your talk page. --Rye Greenwood (talk) 23:07, 11 January 2019 (UTC)

Note: As of 21:03, 11 January 2019, modifying exclusivity icons is a task that is reserved for admins. Bright Silver Dye?[]

I tried to make bright silver dye and it didn’t work, other bright dyes work but bright silver dye may not be on old-gen console. Amikbixby (talk) 15:15, 14 January 2019 (UTC)

What platform are you using (PS3, Xbox 360?), and did you have 2 Silver Dyes in your inventory?– Ferretwings (talk) 21:38, 14 January 2019 (UTC)
Hang on, it was introduced in 1.3.0.1. I'll need to fix some icons.– Ferretwings (talk) 21:43, 14 January 2019 (UTC)

Page is confusing[]

I think the dyes need their own small page mainly for crafting and appearance. It’s hard to tell what dye is what. For example cyan gradient dye. I press on the greenish dye icon in the crafting. It brings me up to where both green and lime dye are. So Ihad to go to a different wiki to see which one it needed. It needed lime. It confused me SO MUCH! It was frustrating scrolling up and down and comparing the green dyes with the ingredients in the cyan gradient dye. It needs to be atleast easier to tell which dye is which. Theextroardinary (talk) 16:29, 6 March 2019 (UTC)

Thank you for your feedback. Do I understand correctly that it was mainly the issue of not knowing the names of the Dyes shown in the tables (like in the "ingredients" column for crafting) which caused you trouble? Would you say having its name written next to every Dye image would have helped? Are there other solutions you could think of simplifying display of the information? Again, thanks for the feedback, the wiki relies on it! --Rye Greenwood (talk) 17:57, 6 March 2019 (UTC)

White boxes around all pictures except Silver Dye when on dark mode[]

As someone who uses dark mode, the white boxes around all the dye example pictures are ugly af. I'm guessing it's not just a problem for this page, but in other places in the wiki as well. If someone could get on that, that'd be awesome. I'm not quite sure how to do it myself. HnZ88 (talk) 19:04, 3 April 2019 (UTC)

Applied images[]

I've been working on remaking all of the applied images as pngs/gifs and I'd like some input on what showcase items should be used.

At the moment we're using the Dye Trader set which doesn't do a very good job at demonstrating the Basic/Gradient dyes due to it being full of bright colors. Here's an example of Dye Trader set vs. Silver armor with the normal/Intense Rainbow and Flame dyes: (Normal is top, Intense is bottom). They produce different colors based on saturation (I believe), so items that are mostly white/gray work a lot better. Of course we could stick with the Dye Trader set, but some other options are Silver armor (already used on the separate Strange Dye pages), Tungsten armor, Pharaoh's set, Unicorn set or the Mummy set.

Also, should the images be moved to the "(equipped)" format? It would make them consistent with other equipped images, and would allow for Strange Dyes to appear in their infoboxes. Eraloiz (talk) 03:31, 7 October 2019 (UTC)

I would prefer the Mummy set, but Silver armor would probably be the most recognizable and well-known base set. And yes, the images should definitely be renamed to be consistent. Thanks for putting effort into this! --Rye Greenwood (talk) 23:10, 18 October 2019 (UTC)
seems like I totally forgot about this -- Wood armor could also be a good contender since it has a simple design and is usually the first armor players will make. See File:Normal-Wood-Armor-Dye.png for an example. Eraloiz (talk) 10:24, 20 November 2019 (UTC)
Finally got around to uploading them all. I decided go with Silver armor in the end, but if we decide to change it in the future, it shouldn't be too hard for me to update them. The Reflective, Gel and Skiph's dyes aren't gifs because I couldn't get them to display nicely/loop properly (gel drips are transparent, and reflective doesn't look too nice cropped). Eraloiz (talk) 20:45, 16 February 2020 (UTC)
It looks great! Thank you! --Rye Greenwood (talk) 21:30, 17 February 2020 (UTC)

Bloodbath Dye[]

I uploaded an image for Bloodbath Dye seeing as it was the only redlink, but I can't figure out how to change the image when editing the page. I see no way to alter the redlink there at all, select it, delete it, replace it, anything. D: How the hecc do you edit the table to change what image is linked there? --Kittenykat27263 (talk) 17:35, 26 May 2020 (UTC)

A strange glitch.[]

Yesterday on switch there was an update (split screen) and i went on to the game and saw my character and he was bald. so i thought well! chlorophyte Helmet is bugged. nope, it was the black flame dye i had on. so once i realized i put it on my unicorn... and poof, its gone im still riding it, but the sprite is gone. i am now a top-less terrarian. any ideas why this happens? edit: this also appears to happen with the glowing mushroom dye. AsrielX0 (talk) 09:18, 21 September 2020 (UTC)

This is a known bug that has been reported on the forums. I'm not sure as to whether or not the devs are aware, but many users are. --2057clones (talk) 12:35, 11 September 2020 (UTC)

Missing layers from sources[]

The source cell for Green Dye is missing the layers the Green Mushroom is found in, as seen on Teal Mushroom/Orange Bloodroot. Similarly, the Cochineal Beetle is missing the caverns layer as with the other two bettles. Metalax (talk) 17:47, 30 October 2020 (UTC)

Dye Glitch[]

Today when playing Terraria, I decided to use dyes. Upon using red dye on the tax collectors suit, the shirt automatically became invisible. It appeared as if my character wasn't wearing a shirt at all. When removing the dye from the dye slot, the shirt changed back to normal. The same glitch occurred when the dye was put into the hat area. The hat became invisible, as if the character was wearing the Familiar Wig. I don't know what might be causing this.
