Legend of Maxx[]

Could it be possible that the Guide's hate of the ocean is a reference to the Terraria webcomic, The Legend of Maxx? In that comic, he is deathly afraid of water and refuses to get near it, and his dislike of it here could be reflecting that. Opinions on this appreciated. Rebirth[]

I hate him. He just uses a room in my house with no-reason. Sad, that I can't kill him. Or I can? With LAVA!!!--Igor09 15:03, 23 May 2011 (UTC) Once you kill the guide, is there a way to get him back? Just wondering... 68.225.247.97 23:08, 2 June 2011 (UTC)

Yes there is, he moves back in just like any other NPC. -Felix20 23:26, 2 June 2011 (UTC)
But if he died, will he come back if you do not have a home or do you need to build a house for him?Tylamimo (talk) 09:59, 27 October 2014 (UTC)
if he dies at the begining of the game, will he respawn if i make him a proper house? Like my guide died in the start of my world, so how do i get him back? Ravenlotus716 (talk) 23:45, 10 June 2021 (UTC)

The Guide is Your friend.[]

And mine too! In single player, if you feel lonely, just be friends with the guide because he'll get lonely too! You see, if you keep hating him, he won't have any friends because nobody wants to be his friend. That makes me sad when he has no friends or buddies. What if everybody hated you? You would feel very sad, right? Well, thats just how the Guide will feel if you don't be his friend! Befriend him today! Fun Friend 16:41, 16 June 2011 (UTC)

My Guide is named Steve[]

Would you consider this a poke at Minecraft or just a random name? Leaning toward the latter, but I thought it worth mentioning. --Theothersteve7 15:42, 6 December 2011 (UTC)

It is definitely a random name. NOWHERE in the trivia does it say the name "Steve" is a reference to Minecraft. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 108.202.187.36 at 17:07, 22 April 2021 (UTC)

Guide Tips[]

Should we add the requirements for certain tips to show up like we do with quotes, or is that unnecessary? --Icke 20:27, 9 December 2011 (UTC)

I think that would be good, since right now, it just looks like a huge wall of text. Vegeta 03:06, 20 December 2011 (UTC)

Twilight refrence?[]

The anomaly stating that he sparkles in daylight COULD be a possible refrence to Twilight. Not that i like the series at all. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.66.236.169 at 02:21, 30 June 2012 (UTC)

Spelling Fix[]

It appears that the spelling error, "wil" instead of "will", has been fixed since it has been written here. — Preceding unsigned comment added by AJ Black (talkcontribs) at 04:33, 2 December 2012‎ (UTC)

Fixed. Also feel free to fix any mistakes yourself if you see any. --Icke 11:21, 2 December 2012 (UTC)

PS3 bug solution[]

The crafting bug on the PS3 edition (where the guide will help himself to your supplies without asking!) will only happen when the guide is near a crafting station. My guide now lives in the bathroom: a toilet and bath make the room count as valid housing, but do not allow accidental crafts of any kind. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 87.211.141.187 at 19:45, 19 October 2013 (UTC)

Guide origin theory[]

What if: The guide is what becomes of a player when they reach EXTREME endgame. After the player conquers everything the world has to offer, they get reset to a new world to help a brave hero start his own adventure. Kind of a full circle path, the guide knows everything and can deal with this new player's crap because he's been through it all before. Of course, then sometimes the guide would have to be female. 75.25.124.151 07:17, 15 November 2013 (UTC)

This is not a forum. pleae to not treat is as such, It is a rule. just because everyone else breaks a rule doesn't mean it will not be enforced. Further more, for the love of Andrew Spinks the almighty, don't put speculation here.205.211.96.100 16:15, 19 December 2013 (UTC)

Glitch?[]

I built a house, and let the guide (named Dylan) move in. At one point, when it turned night, he started just randomly changing direction, opening and closing doors, and at one point, let 3 zombies and a Demon Eye into the house. Is this a known bug? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.27.57.123 at 20:31, 13 March 2016 (UTC)

Either that or he's just being annoying. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 108.202.187.36 at 17:11, 22 April 2021 (UTC)

New quote?[]

So I was randomly playing terraria, and i got this message

GuideQuote

I don't know the conditions to get this (though i think having the tavernkeep in town is one), so can someone confirm this? (This is a vanilla copy of terraria)Brendan783 (talk) 04:51, 27 November 2016 (UTC)

I'm going to change it back to a regular jpeg file to enlarge it, so here goes. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Brendan783 (talkcontribs) at 04:51, 27 November 2016 (UTC)

I believe the quote refers to the Tavernkeep with the name Bill, and the Old One's Army. Perhaps a little word of advice on how to get some advice which you're asking advice for? Apart from that, I believe this quote is legitimate and I or you can add it to the page. LordofEditing (talk) 07:05, 27 November 2016 (UTC)

I checked the code, it's there. I just added it to the page. "Bill" does refer to the Tavernkeep. Equazcion (talk) 10:47, 27 Nov 2016 (UTC)

Is this a good idea, or am I just a total dirtbag?[]

Guide banner. If you kill him 50 times, you'll get a Guide banner. I'm a horrible person for suggesting this, but I think it would be really stupid, maybe enough so to be funny. 172.249.169.192 03:01, 17 March 2020 (UTC)

Moving Guide Advice quotes to their own page?[]

Now that the Guide has a proper set of advice that is supposed to go through the Moon Lord, his page is likely to get much longer if all the quotes are eventually added. Especially considering that NPC pages are now going to be more about how to reach their max happiness and what they sell under what conditions, it may be a good idea to move his advice to its own page that's linked in the Guide's page, rather than stuffing it all under one section on his page.

Guide being Wall of Flesh[]

I feel unsuitable to just call that the Guide is the Wall of Flesh (in Trivia section).

We only have one screenshot from Terraria official discord. It does not contain any context. That one message can even be merely a joke. Plus how the Guide is related to the WoF is also unstated. Maybe he is like the Old man, but no other source supplements this (even if we now know that he is “the chosen one”, the correlation is still very vague).

Need more information to draw the conclusion. --Aquila014 (talk) 07:44, 24 May 2020 (UTC)

can anyone change the help message about truffle isn't present to the world[]

from "There are some special plants and other ingredients that can be used to dye things. Maybe if you keep some with you, you'll find someone to show you how." to "I've heard of glowing mushrooms growing big enough on the surface to gain sentience. Wonder if there's any truth to that..." — Preceding unsigned comment added by 125.161.212.251 at 14:16, 10 July 2020 (UTC)

Proper houses[]

so i might be acting like an idiot, but what makes a house a proper house? im tryna get my guide back, but he died before i asigned him a house, so im trying to get him back with a proper house, please help me! Ravenlotus716 (talk) 23:49, 10 June 2021 (UTC)

In short, a house needs to be fully enclosed by blocks, with one opening (like a door), background walls placed by the player (as in, not naturally generated dirt walls for example), a light source, a comfort item like a chair, and a flat surface item like a workbench. You can open the housing menu by clicking on the house icon above your armor in your inventory. Select the question mark and click on your structure to see if it's a valid house. If you build a valid house and a NPC other than the Guide spawns, simply build another. He'll respawn eventually. See House for full details. --Silverthedragon (talk) 09:53, 11 June 2021 (UTC)

Possible Problem[]

While I was looking at the tips and interaction quotes, I could not see most of them. Why is this happening? 74.197.225.63 14:22, 20 November 2021 (UTC)

After a larger update to the game, there is usually a large surge of editors and visitors alike to the wiki, and some things may break unexpectedly before everything settles down. Should you encounter such an error again, you can try to null-edit the page, i.e., go into edit mode and save the page without making any changes. This can often fix caching-related errors like the one you described. Sorry for the inconvenience! --Rye Greenwood (talk) 17:10, 20 November 2021 (UTC)
