Terraria is a sandbox game with building, Re-Logic, published and developed on by Re-Logic, and published on consoles (developed by Engine Software) and mobile devices (developed by Codeglue) by 505 Games. The game was initially developed (starting in January 2011) by Andrew "Redigit" Spinks (programming and design) and Finn "Tiy" Bryce (commissioned for some of the graphics design). Redigit remained the sole programmer for the project from its start until January 2014, when he hired Solsund and Yoraiz0r to help with future updates (starting with v1.2.3). Tiy left the development team early in 2012, but several spriters from the community were hired early in 2013 once Terraria returned to active development.
Cessation of Development
Over the course of the next year, very little news regarding Terraria came out until September 11, 2012, when it was announced that Terraria would be coming to PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in 2013.
Return to Development
Early in 2013, Redigit requested input from the Terraria community regarding what they would want in a new update. According to Redigit, this post (which would eventually lead to v1.2) was brought about by some hands-on time with console Terraria. Development on the game has been ongoing ever since.
