Dungeon Guardians are enemies that guard the Dungeon against intruders. If a player enters the Dungeon without first killing Skeletron and travels below zero depth (the horizontal midline of the map), multiple Dungeon Guardians quickly fly at the player, dealing 1,000 damage each, effectively killing any player instantly. Dungeon Guardians are large, very fast, and travel through blocks.
Dungeon Guardians are immune to the Poisoned, On Fire!, and Cursed Inferno debuffs.

Notes
- Deep caves and Chasms near the Dungeon should be avoided until Skeletron is defeated, as having a significant portion of the Dungeon on-screen below zero depth is considered being inside it, and Guardians can therefore still spawn.
- Killing a Dungeon Guardian is possible, though it would take thousands of hits due to its absurdly high defense. Combined with the fact that you generally need to contend with multiple Guardians at once, victory is extremely unlikely unless you prepare carefully for the encounter.
- Entering the Dungeon while fighting Skeletron will still spawn the Dungeon Guardian.
- Another method is to use a teleporter wired to a 1-second timer along with a hall of spike ball traps. When executed properly, the Dungeon Guardian(s) will chase you as you teleport back and forth, taking damage from the spike balls. This method is effortless and saves bullets and gravitation potions.
- A full set of Frost Armor is also very good, considering he is not immune to the Frostburn debuff.
- To easily defeat the guardian first set up a spawn point/house at the entrance. Second, enter the dungeon and proceed down until the guardian spawns. you will die. After you re spawn find the location directly above the guardians spawn point and tunnel down until the guardian spawns again. You need to find the exact block level that he spawns at because As long as you are one block above the spawn point you will not die. once you have determined this point, rig up a series of teleporters and levers in a one way travel pattern to the surface, placing teleporters at an interval of approx one screen width apart.

{t}=teleporter
Dashes = wires
L= lever
in sequence starting at the guardians spawn point.
{t}-L---------{t}-L------{t}-L--------{t}-L----{t}-- connect to one of the teleporters in the room you will build next.
This is due to the fact that instantly jumping to the surface will cause the guardian to de-spawn. At each interval wait until the guardian is almost on you before acvtivating the level to teleport to the next interval. For me it was 3 intervals to the surface, i used red wire for this part.
On the surface design and build a 6 block high by aprox 2 screen lengths long room with walls and a roof.

F=Floor block
R=Roof block
T=Teleporter Hooked to one second timer, in a loop.(also wire the traps to a one second timer)
An easy way to size up your room is to place a single block then proceed placing blocks until the first block you placed touches the edge of your screen. Then return to the first block you placed and proceed placing blocks in the opposite direction until the first block again touches the edge of your screen.
If your room is too short the guardian will kill you before you teleport.
this segment was added 10/20/2013. As a side note i would like to say that the guardian did 8-9k damage to me during the set up of this procedure. I am unsure if this would mean the turtle armor/black belt combo will still work. This method took me aprox 45 mins to kill the guardian. i used inferno fork for extra dps and the chlorophyte crystal as it can shoot through walls.
Trivia
- Originally, actual Skeletron Heads were used to guard the Dungeon. Killing all Skeletron Heads would count as defeating Skeletron, so the Dungeon Guardian was created to repair this unintentional behavior.[1]
History
- 1.2.0.3.1: Damaged reduced from 9000 to 1000, to prevent Turtle armor from dealing too much damage.
- 1.2: Now drops Bone Key.
- 1.0.5: Introduced, replacing Skeletron Heads as the Dungeon's guards.
