Would it be okay to change the Data IDs in the upper right corner of templates so that it's like this: 321

A few different things
Edit
That's a very nice talkback template you have there :)
Also, I'm about to review the site-wide JS again -- namely, switching over to use the new importArticles() method that Wikia's performance team came up with a few weeks ago. I'll also be sure to add the search JS while I'm at it.
One last note: sometime in the near future I'd like to update all of our templates that use the old ShowHide code and switch them over to using mw-collapsible. Basically like what you did with Monsters. I was looking at Navbox, and my question is: should we be using that template now as a building-block for all the navigation templates? If that's okay, I can continue looking through our table templates and switching them over to use Navbox.
Mathmagician ƒ(♫) 05:35 UTC, Thursday, 13 September 2012
- Thanks! It does the wikier good to do something totally pointless every now and then.
- Also, I'm happy to hear about the search improvement. Thanks for writing that up.
- Lastly, I've been slowly switching over the templates in Category:Table Templates to Category:Navigational templates. A few remain, but those aren't in use. I'm sure we can just remove the showhide code entirely from the site eventually, but there are still some pages using it. Dzylon Talk 11:18 September 13, 2012
Bot
Edit
Hey, is there any chance you could get your bot to go through Special:BrokenRedirects and delete all those comments? I'm guessing all those broken redirects happened when the Suggestions page got moved to Blanzer's blog, since Suggestions used to be called "Parts of the wiki". If that's possible to do, that'd be great. Thanks!
Edit: Actually, I think deleting the root page Parts of the wiki may work. I deleted that, let's wait a couple days and then check Special:BrokenRedirects to see if that clears up the issue.
Mathmagician ƒ(♫) 20:18 UTC, Wednesday, 19 September 2012
- If it doesn't, I'll use the bot. I just requested a fresh database dump, and I'll go ahead and set up Pywikipedia as well. *Not leaving talkback, I'm sure you'll see this in RC* Dzylon Talk 20:27 September 19, 2012
My Own Wiki
Edit
Hey, I was wondering if I should make my own wiki or not. I've been thinking about it, and now that Google Chrome helps me edit and stuff, I might be able to manage. I don't know if I have to pay for it or not, but it would be nice to have my own wiki and stuff. Although, I don't know what kind of wiki I should make. Please reply if you have any suggestions/think that I can manage! (If the wiki is set up I will make you admin. :P)
And also, I copied and pasted this to most admins that I know. Thanks for your time!

Page Background
Edit
Hey, any chance you would be interested in repairing our background image so that it displays properly with the new wider layout? If not, please ask Pathogen if he'd be willing to give a crack at it. And if not, then maybe I can (though you really don't want me editing images ... the designer kittens might perish :P). Thanks!
Mathmagician ƒ(♫) 04:42 UTC, Thursday, 4 October 2012
- I started work on one resembling the new official background (link) a while back, and just started working on it again today. It should be finished soon - I'll put up a forum at that time.
- If you're interested, you can find a rough example using the one on the official Terraria site (linked earlier) on fortesting. I think it'll go well with the wiki. Dzylon Talk 04:46 October 04, 2012
- Ooh, that is nice. Two things. 1) Are we allowed to use that image from the official site? (public domain? copyrighted? licensing?) My first guess would be it's copyrighted... 2) It feels a bit off compared against the header with the rocks. Rocks do not float in the sky. Well.. sometimes they do :)

- 1) Technically, just about everything here is copyrighted, lol. I think it would be better to use our own design in any case. 2) Yeah, I see what you mean - I could put some kind of large floating island up there, but that might make it all seem too cramped. Dzylon Talk 11:15 October 04, 2012

- Now that I think about it, "N/A" is too equivocal to be used here. I'll change it to blank, like you said.
- By the way, my laptop's display failed. Any editing I do is from a mobile device which, with Wikia, is finicky at best. I should be able to carry out my responsibilities here as I normally would before long.
- And on the subject of the mob drops (this is directed to anyone that happens to read it): I've created a hidden category, Category:No drop chance, to list pages without drop chance data. I'll work on that myself when I can. Dzylon Talk 12:55 October 29, 2012

Nomination / moving on?
Edit
- Added my support to your nomination for Pathogen
- Sorry to hear that you're ready to move on, although that's the way of life of course. Will you still be around on other wikis such as Central, or on Steam (admittedly I'm not on Steam very often anymore :P, since all the games I've been playing recently are not on there)
Mathmagician ƒ(♫) 01:37 UTC, Tuesday, 5 February 2013
- I'll probably keep hanging out at Central for a while, if only to try my hand at whatever interesting support requests pop out at me. It is my general intent, though, to avoid Wikia in general - I'm not such a fan of that company anymore (but that doesn't have anything to do with my decreased activity here). I'm sure I'll come back to edit here on the wiki again. Perhaps when console Terraria is released? Dzylon Talk 02:28 February 05, 2013
- First of all, I'm rather sad to hear about your intent to depart, Dzy. You're one of the longest standing editors on the Wiki, one of the most highly-acclaimed in terms of code implementation, and one of the editors I respect greatly due to your dedication, efficiency and overall awesomeness. I do, however, accept that it is your choice to leave, and I will in no way judge you for it. I believe I'm one of the few who can actually say this, but; "It really was great having you". ^ᴗ^ Second, I'll say a big thanks for the nomination, Dzy. (And thanks to Math for the support :3)

Note
Edit
Hey, just wanted to note that I made this comment. Inquiry: are you OK with just allowing people to add videos for now without the formal video policy? Frankly I think the video policy has kind of outlived it's usefulness. As Sannse said at the time, we should review it to move to a more open policy where everyone can add videos. Since everyone is pretty much doing that right now anyway... and we don't nearly have the resources to review every video... and it would just be hindering people who are looking for information to remove videos while enforcing the policy... do you think we can just consider that policy void/retired for the immediate time? And later we can consider a more formal approach?
Mathmagician ƒ(♫) 03:54 UTC, Saturday, 6 April 2013
- Affirmative. Also, please join me in chat. Dzylon Talk 04:01 April 06, 2013
Template:Console
Edit
Hey, could you please keep this template separate from the infoboxes instead of integrating it with them? As a boilerplate, it isn't part of any infobox, so I think it's bad, if not confusing, design to combine them in the same template.
Mathmagician ƒ(♫) 02:06 UTC, Sunday, 7 April 2013
- Unrelated note: I know I said I would get the specification for hover tooltips to you this weekend. As of right now, looking into it, I'm seeing lots of potential issues both on the design and implementation side of things. This is something that I'd like to have a week to think over. I'll get back to you as soon as I can.
Mathmagician ƒ(♫) 17:48 UTC, Sunday, 7 April 2013
- Why don't I just write the script and then you can review it when I'm done? I'm not seeing the sense in this whole "specification" idea. If you're the one doing the decision making, you might as well be writing the script yourself.
- Also, you were right about the console template. I'm not sure why I was trying to combine them in the first place. Thanks for the heads up. Dzylon Talk 18:39 April 07, 2013
- Me making a specification is not me saying I would do all the decision making. Like I said in chat, you're free to not follow the specification in some places, or modify it as you develop the application.
- In software development, rarely is coding the first thing that happens. Complex programs require careful thought and abstraction before development even begins (there's also a business aspect such as demand, marketing, budget, etc. but obviously that doesn't factor in here).
- If you want to begin by building a working mock up, that's fine too. Either way, it is likely that whatever we start with will change a lot before it becomes the final product.
Mathmagician ƒ(♫) 19:07 UTC, Sunday, 7 April 2013
- If you want to begin by building a working mock up, that's fine too. Either way, it is likely that whatever we start with will change a lot before it becomes the final product.
- I think that a spec like the one you're suggesting would both complicate and elongate the process. I mean, this isn't some vast, complex tool like Wikimarks. A standard exchange between you and I - without specs or guidelines or anything like that - should be enough for a project like this. Remember when we were working on the new theme for the wiki on ForTesting? Something like that. Dzylon Talk 19:25 April 07, 2013
- I will wait to see what you come up with, and we can iterate off of that :)

(reset indent) Back on topic about Template:Console — can you think of a way to reword it so that it applies to monsters as well as items, maybe something like Template:ModHeader-Reborn? Longer wording though may not make it display very nicely alongside the template.. yeah we could get word wrap, but then the boilerplate might be too tall. We could also introduce a parameter to that template like {mob} or something to change the word "item" to "monster". What do you think would be the best way to go about this to accommodate console-exclusive monster pages?
Mathmagician ƒ(♫) 03:02 UTC, Monday, 8 April 2013
- Yep, I saw your summary in RC. I've already adapted the template to fit "enemy", "NPC", "monster", or whatever else. I would recommend "enemy", though, because it takes up less space. Dzylon Talk 03:07 April 08, 2013
- Awesome, thanks :)

Spotlight
Edit
Any particular thoughts about applying for spotlight again? I was thinking it might be nice to request a message like "Terraria is now available on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3!" (and let Wikia's artists come up with an image). We'd just have to keep Special:UncategorizedPages empty and lower protection on the main page I think, like last time.
Mathmagician ƒ(♫) 03:47 UTC, Monday, 8 April 2013
- Sounds good to me. I see Brain and Dragon Stinger in the special page, but they both have categories, so we're good there. Plus, the main page is already unlocked. Dzylon Talk 03:59 April 08, 2013
Quality/rarity
Edit
Afraid I have no idea how to add the Quality/Rarity and make it link and show the correct color. Perhaps could you tell me how? :)
GT: MSD l Spawned (That is a lowercase L) (talk) 23:15, April 8, 2013 (UTC)
- Of course :). When you're dealing with infoboxes, just click the "v" at the top left of the box. This will bring you to the template's documentation. In the case of rarity, by going to an infobox's documentation (in this case, let's say Infobox:Weapon), you can find the information you're looking for at the bottom of the page. According to that list,
rarity = tier 6returns Tier 6 (Purple).
- That advice applies to the regular wiki editor, not the terrible visual editor, which I recommend disabling at Special:Preferences#mw-prefsection-editing (but you can also change it manually on a per edit basis at the top left of the editor's text area).
- Also, please start a new section when leaving talk page messages. This keeps everything nice and organized. Thanks, Dzylon Talk 23:46 April 08, 2013
Links
Edit
I am new to the editing of wikis and I was wondering how to link particular words (Like the name of an item) to the required pageEditorofArticles (talk) 01:11, April 10, 2013 (UTC)EditorofArticles
- To link to a page, disable your visual editor and insert this:
Name of page. That's it. Just two brackets. If you want to display text different from the page being linked to, you can use this:text displayed.main pageproduces this: main page. For more information, see the Mediawiki help page, or you can just ask me :). Dzylon Talk 01:25 April 10, 2013

Question about change of an Infobox:Monster-parameter
Edit
In the sandbox of the Monster Infobox (Template:Infobox:Monster/sandbox), I tested around with the Spawn Time parameter to make it easier to include on their pages. As of now (correct me if I'm wrong), you have to add the icons and Links by yourself if you want to add the Spawn Time. So I modified the parameter to make this automatically, which means i.e. if you write "|spawn time = hardmode", it outputs ![]()
![]()
![]()
- Good idea. Just one thing: the switch results don't need to be inside the spawn parameter. They'll be fine without it (though they'll also be fine with it - it's just unnecessary). When you've made the change, I can use my bot to update the pages including the template. Don't worry about breaking the pages using the template; your inclusion of a default parameter means that nothing will change when you edit the template.
- Also, you should not have reverted Mippmipp's edits. As I said on your talk page (you may not have noticed when I posted that, which I understand), rollback should never be used on well-intentioned edits. You may want to read Wikipedia:Rollback#When to use rollback. If you want to revert a well-intentioned edit, you should just undo it (and leave a summary explaining why you've done so, if necessary).
- Please rollback the rollbacks you've performed, refactor Mippmipp's edits, or leave him a talk page message explaining why you've reverted his changes. Thanks, Dzylon Talk 20:14 April 11, 2013
Obsidian mod 1.2 download, Cheers
Edit
Infobox for Obsidian mod has a download link that is out of date, http://terraria.wikia.com/wiki/Mod:Obsidian_Mod . Version 1.2 was release in December. Don't know how to change it as it doesn't show up in the editing window. And clicking on the infobox downward arrow only shows the main template. 1.2 version: http://q.gs/1361646/obisdian-12-global TheUnbeholden (talk) 11:15, April 18, 2013 (UTC)
- To change the infobox, I'd recommend disabling your visual editor. At that point, you can just change the contents of the parameters you want to modify (after the equal signs - it's fairly self-explanatory). If you want to use the visual editor, you can also click the little puzzle piece icon that represents the infobox, click edit in the bottom right corner of the box that pops up, and then modify the appropriate parameters, but the visual editor is really buggy (and just overall terrible, in my opinion), so I try to recommend disabling it when I can.
- If you need more help, you can let me know. Alternatively, if you'd just like me to change the parameters for you, I'd be glad to do that as well. Cheers, Dzylon Talk 01:11 April 19, 2013
Crafting
Edit
Again, regarding the Crafting Page: It just doesnt't feels right (The Stylesheet isn't properly loaded). I don't have permission to do so, but I would try to remove the <style>-Tags or rename the page to "MediaWiki:CSS/Crafting.css". I don't know much about the Style-System here on Wikia (except the stuff I've read just now), but it looks like something's missing. Guest273 (talk) 12:53, May 12, 2013 (UTC)
